Creating own Distro
I'm thinking I want to create my own Linux distro. I kind of want my own project because I've been having fun with these LLMs. I want to create an AI first distro that is based on Gentoo. Now before you roll your eyes, I think this is actually a great idea. Security and privacy would be taken to the extent that it's possible. For the really painful packages I'll have it install binaries. You have a "control console" where you can interact in plain text, the LLM will tell you what it wants to implement, you give it the okay and it goes with it. I'll also have Nix package manager installed on the side as well as Flatpak. Gentoo also has binary packages. So, some of the problems of compile times can be overcome.
One of the problems with Gentoo is that it was just tedious to maintain even if you got a successful setup. But it is a neat idea to have a computer that is really tailed to your setup. I'm thinking I'll have a minimal installable ISO based on Debian stable. The installer will look something like the Void Linux installer. It shouldn't require too much maintenance. I'll have my server automatically create and test new images every couple weeks or so so I don't want to do that manually.
Once I get a working system I will migrate eventually. But, that will probably only be when I get back from Brazil. I shouldn't risk having a broken computer while I'm here. Probably first order of business would be installing it on my old laptop. I like the concept of Omarchy, but it's a bit too Arch veiny for me. I want something that's a bit more stable and it doesn't pick everything for you. I'd want more of a generic config that the user can build from. I do want a modern system. Modern file system, pipe wire, Wayland, SystemD, etc. I know that might put off people that these are set for you, but I want a system that is relatively simple to use.
The kernel the system would compile for you. No more have to go through the kernel looking for what you should enable and disable for your computer. The LLM can determine that for you. One thing I'll have to decide though is whether I want to put it under my username or should I just completely disassociate myself from it. Somebody will probably come across this blog and somehow come to the conclusion I'm an alt-right yazi. Never mind I'm not a statist. To them Republicans are far-right. Such is the world we live in. I think what I'll do is I'll make my Git instance that's already the git repo, but buy a separate domain for the distro. Don't really want to double up on git hosting.
Well, sounds like a fun project, no? Oh, right. The window manager. I was thinking Wayland DWM. I think there's a way to manage that. But I would implement things like gaps, a system tray, notifications, basic settings, etc. Now I got to go. Need to find something to eat too. Stupid LLM still running. Well, kernel and portage development probably gonna take a bit.
